Few spaces have been so unjustly treated as the decoration of our entryway. It has been snatched of all the importance that it deserves, it is the great forgotten of our homes. When we go into any house, it is the entryway that receives us, but immediately after we enter each room we start to dream of how we are going to decorate each one, completely forgetting who welcomed us.

The entryway is our cover letter, a small sample of ourselves, that should impress those who like the postman, the messenger or the grocery delivery man, that will not cross beyond the threshold of the door, or the indiscreet neighbors who can’t avoid taking a peek at the interior of our home during the five seconds that it takes to open that door, say hello and close it.

In most cases it is a small space, without many possibilities as far as furnishings are concerned, and that is why we must pay special attention to the style of the few pieces that we are going to place there. They should give of a sense of character, and be able to dress the space on their own.

The first thing we must bear in mind is that we should not invade any space with furniture or accessories, therefore if it is an entryway full of doors, without walls where furniture could be installed, aesthetics must reside in the vertical and horizontal parameters such as the wall, floor and ceiling.

We could give particular importance to the floor by placing a rug with large prints and intense colors on it, balancing the decoration with a large ceiling lamp that defines that style of the space. The decor will have much visual weight in the poles with the absence of furniture in the central area.

Wallpaper is a great resource for decorating the entryways, because they usually have small walls, we could be more daring with the prints and colors on them. That same wallpaper on a large wall might saturate the decoration.

The furniture must always be small in size, small auxiliary tables, benches, desks, armchairs, sculptures, coat racks, umbrella holders, vases are all decorative objects that fill up the entryway of all homes, but surely, the entryway is the king of the console table, usually accompanied by a piece of art or a mirror, allowing us to reposition our tie just before running for the door.
