Ball Chair

The Ball Chair design was born from the firm idea of its designer Eero Aarnio, to design a chair for his home, where today he still has the first chair ever manufactured.

According to Eero, designing it was easy and even more baptizing it. After several sketches the design was so simple it had become a ball. A spherical framework, with an upholstered interior, and an added telephone.

In 1966 Eero introduced the chair in the Cologne Fair. Thus unveiling a design that would endure over time marking a milestone in the history of design, as well as the recognition of a designer who would make history in the world of design and decoration.

Over the years, there have been some reinterpretations of the ball chair, like this one, that converts the design into a bubble, the Bubble Chair.

The Ball Chair is a perfect design for living moments of intimacy, as it is a private space withing the shared one.

We can place it in any room, living room, bedroom…but I’m sure we have all  seen it in commercial spaces, fashion stores, hotels, reception areas….

We must not confuse the Ball Chair and the authorized copies of the same with the Sphere Chair, that according to the official Eero Aarnio website is an unauthorized copy because we can distinguish the difference by the pedestal on which it sits because the sphere is in polished metal.

If you want to include this piece in your home you can find the original Ball Chair in Hive for around 6500 dollars or you can visit the list of distributors.

If the price is a little out of your reach, you can always buy a miniature of this icon of design in the tent of Vitra Design Museum  for 213 euros.

There are may available designs based on the Ball Chair, with varied prices, like the one you can find in Inmod  from 1675 dollars.  In addition  Inmod has an online tool where you can customize your own Ball Chair, including  wish an audio system if we wish.
